Cornwall towing company fails to pay workers, fined $30K

Cornwall, Ontario — June 8, 2015 — A former Cornwall towing company is facing $30,000 in fines after failing to pay six of its past employees.

Cornwall Newswatch reports CRR Cornwall Roadside Recovery, also known as Glen’s Towing, and business director Glen Comeau received the fines during a Provincial Offences Act court trial on June 4.

CRR Cornwall Roadside Recovery and Comeau were found to still owe about $10,000 of the respective $30,413 and $25,345 they had been ordered to pay in 2013, resulting in newly issued fines.

The claimants, six tow truck drivers, were owed overtime, vacation pay, public holiday pay and had been impacted by unauthorized deductions, according to the Ministry of Labour.

The defendants are now situated in Dorval and Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec.
